Maiwa Handprints
I travelled the world looking for inspiration ... and I found it." Charllotte Kwon opened Maiwa over 20 years ago to build a market
for the works of exceptional artisans. The atmosphere of Granville Island focuses on how things are made. It showcases the lives of craftspeople who have committed themselves to technique and material. Granville Island is a rare place – ideally positioned to nurture and encourage this essential cultural work.
Maiwa is about textiles: handwoven, blockprinted, embroidered, and naturally dyed. They exist either as uncut cloth (shawls and wraps) or as garments and bedding. We foster participation in technique through Maiwa Supply (the largest natural dye supplier in Canada). We also encourage education and understanding through our Symposium, one of most comprehensive textile events in the world.
